What is a Portable Appliance?

For the purpose of legislation a portable appliance is taken to be an item of equipment which is not part of a fixed system but is or is intended to be connected to a fixed installation, or generator by means of a flexible cable and a plug and socket. This basically means that any item with a plug is a portable appliance. This would include electric drills, kettles, PC’s, printers, monitors & extension leads.
